For civil construction professionals known as bricklayers need to plan their work, deal with customer management, and, often, with subordinates in their work tasks. In this sector, in addition to professionals who work for construction companies and contractors, some self-employed professionals represent a large portion of the workforce. Given this context, this study seeks to understand which management techniques and knowledge are employed in the work activities of self-employed professionals in the civil construction sector. It was decided to combine a descriptive and reflective analysis of twenty-seven interviews in the first half of 2020 to carry out such an investigation. In addition to mapping the profile of professionals that indicate an interest in deepening their knowledge in administration, the present study came across four dimensions that attest to the intuitive practice of techniques in this field of study. On the one hand, the scope of the vocation and the use of different concepts for business management were indicated in the interviewees' speeches. On the other hand, impediments to professional qualification and threats to a long career in the informal sector are also present in the work context of the investigated professionals. Thus, the study concludes that, regardless of a formal learning opportunity, the techniques, concepts, and practicality of knowledge of administrative management are fundamental for autonomous professionals such as those in the civil construction sector.
