This paper investigates the efficiency and performance of companies using the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) methodology, aiming to provide fundamental insights to improve their operations. The study explores the concept of business efficiency as the ability to maximize the production of outputs from limited inputs, and highlights the importance of a more holistic approach that goes beyond traditional metrics. The DEA methodology emerges as a powerful tool to assess the relative efficiency of decision-making units, considering multiple inputs and outputs, as well as the particularities of each context. The objectives include investigating the theoretical foundations of the DEA methodology, applying the analysis to a set of companies’ representatives of a specific sector, and comparing the results with conventional performance metrics. We conducted the study using a bibliographic methodology, using academic sources and relevant theories to support the analysis. The results highlight the importance of a more comprehensive and impartial analysis of efficiency, as provided by the DEA methodology. Comparison with traditional metrics reveals distinct nuances of assessment and demonstrates the relevance of a more sophisticated approach. The insights obtained can guide management practices, allowing the identification of best practices and areas for improvement. From this, this study contributes both to academia, by expanding knowledge in the field of management and economics, and to the business world, by offering an advanced approach to assessing performance in the public sector. The methodology employed represents a valuable tool for improving resource allocation and guiding informed strategic decisions.
