Knowledge of food labeling is of paramount importance to society, particularly in the field of public health, as it influences individual behavioral changes toward healthier eating habits, thereby contributing to disease prevention. The new food labeling regulations have introduced changes that improve the visibility of nutritional information, enabling consumers to make healthier purchasing and dietary choices. Within this context, the objective of this study was to assess the compliance of labels on animal-origin food products (AOFPs) marketed in the Metropolitan Region of Recife (MRR), Pernambuco, Brazil, with the new nutritional labeling requirements. Methodologically, this research was designed as an observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study. A total of 181 samples belonging to Groups IV and V, as defined by ANVISA Normative Instruction No. 75/2020, were collected and analyzed. Data collection was carried out in six municipalities in the state of Pernambuco through photographic records. Compliance was evaluated using a structured checklist comprising seven assessment domains: general labeling, legibility, ingredient list, nutrition claims, mandatory warnings, nutrition facts table, and front-of-package nutrition labeling. The results showed that 153 (84.5%) of the analyzed products were generally compliant, whereas 28 (15.5%) presented nonconformities related to legibility and labeling deficiencies. In addition, 11.8% of the establishments were found to have irregular registration status with the Pernambuco State Inspection Service (SIE-PE). It is concluded that, despite the high overall compliance rate observed, stricter regulatory inspection and enforcement are still required, since failure to comply with labeling regulations directly compromises the consumer's right to accurate and reliable product information.
